It's Official! You'll See My Extras on Showtime

Casting Director Renee GodboutCasting Director Renee Godbout talks about her new pilot starring Edie Falco

Working on pilots can be hard. It feels really good to watch your finished product on screen, but you never know if the show will actually get picked up.

But I’ve now worked on three pilots, and all three shows have been picked up! Unfortunately Traveler, with Matthew Bomer, never made it past the initial episode order. But my second pilot, Dirty Sexy Money, is filming its second season right now in Los Angeles!

Every season The Critic’s Association is presented with the new season’s next big hits and misses. Each day is dedicated to at least one network where they have the opportunity to share not only information on their new shows, but also interesting facts about those returning.

Last week during Showtime’s presentation, two new series were announced. The first was The United States of Tara with Toni Collette and the other was Nurse Jackie, starring Edie Falco. I’m definitely more excited about Nurse Jackie… and it’s not just because I cast several featured extras in the pilot!

Nurse Jackie is a new half-hour comedy about a nurse played by Edie Falco (The Sopranos). It follows what goes on in her life, both at home and at work. It also stars Peter Facinelli (90210 actress Jennie Garth’s husband), Paul Schulze, and Merritt Wever.

Jackie has a lot of crazy nuances – including an addiction to painkillers – that make her a lot of fun to watch. When I read a script, it takes a lot to get me hooked and this one most certainly did!

From the moment I finished reading it, I felt that the show would inevitably get picked up. Of course, you are never really certain until the announcement is made. I can’t wait to see it air on Showtime in 2009 – and the best part is that all the actors I cast will get to see themselves on TV!
