Wang Quan'an () (b. 1965The Internet Movie Database incorrectly lists Wang's birth year as "1956.") is a Sixth Generation Chinese film director. Wang was born in Yan'an, China. He graduated from the Beijing Film Academy in 1991. He had a ten year relationship with actress and muse Yu Nan, which ended in 2009.

Career

Unlike many of his contemporaries, who focus on urban life, Wang's films emphasize China's rural life. Wang has directed three films thus far. His next film, Fang zhi guniang (literally Woman Textile Worker) will take him to familiar territory, exploring working class female experiences in modern day China.

Another project, entitled Bai Lu Yuan (literally White Deer Plain) is also currently in development, though Wang has made it known that he would like to cast fellow director Zhang Yimou in the lead role.
