Shane Acker (born
1971,
Wheaton, Illinois)

film director and
screenwriter well known for directing
9 which is based on his 2005 student award-winning film,
9. He also worked as animator on
Peter Jackson's
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.
Shane Acker studied at the
UCLA School of the Arts and Architecture and originally set a goal of becoming an
architect but instead chose a film career. He started out with
The Hangnail 1999 2-D animated film for
Spike and Mike's Sick and Twisted Festival of Animation and later worked as director on
The Astounding Talent of Mr. Grenade. In 2005 he directed the award-winning animated short film
9 which won a student award and was showed at
SIGGRAPH Electronic Theater.
Tim Burton saw Acker's short film and together along with producer,
Timur Bekmambetov made the feature film alongside with Attitude Studios in
Luxembourg and
Starz Animation in
Toronto. Shane Acker is currently working as a freelance director living in
Los Angeles.
