Kristy Yang is the
stage name of
Hong Kong actress Yang Gong Ru (Yeung Kung Yu) (杨恭如 ).
Biography
Early career
Born in Shanghai, China to a Chinese father and a half-Chinese half-British mother. She immigrated to Toronto, Canada at a very young age. After completing her high school years, she was accepted to York University in Toronto, Canada.
Career
A trip to Hong Kong in the summer of 1995 changed her whole life. During that time by chance, ATV's Beauty Pageant Contest was going on and Kristy's mom encouraged her daughter to join the competition during their stay.
Finally Kristy emerged as the winner, earning herself the title of
Miss Asia 1995. She also won the Miss Photogenic and Most Popular Contestant awards. From that point on, her popularity began to soar as ATV began promoting her with numerous series. Her diva status was further confirmed as she ventured into the big screen movie market with much success.
