House of Wax is a filmUS
horror film, directed by
Jaume Collet-Serra. It is a very loose
remake of the
film of the same name which is a remake of the film
Mystery of the Wax Museum, the 2005 film being reworked into the format of a
slasher film. It was released in theaters on May 6, 2005, on DVD on October 25, 2005 and Blu-ray on September 26, 2006. As part of the promotion, the phrase "See
Paris Hilton Die" was used to advertise the film. In her film debut, Hilton won the
Golden Raspberry Award for
Worst Supporting Actress.
Plot
Prologue
In 1974, a woman uses boiling hot wax to make wax masks while her young son is eating his breakfast in a highchair. The father comes in, holding a second son, who is having a wild tantrum. The two parents have to work together to put the second child in his highchair and strap him into it. The father calls the child a "little monster," and the mother angrily asks why he can't be more like his brother. She then slaps him across his face when he attacks her. Neither child's face is seen.
Present
Six teenagers are on their way to a highly anticipated football game in
Louisiana. Carly (
Elisha Cuthbert) is an ambitious and mild-mannered young waitress who is planning to move to New York for an internship for
InStyle magazine. Her boyfriend Wade (
Jared Padalecki) is a small-town guy who is hesitant about moving to the big city. They are joined on their trip by Carly's friend Paige (
Paris Hilton) and her boyfriend Blake (
Robert Ri'chard); Paige may be pregnant with Blake's child, although she hasn't told him yet. Blake has invited Carly's twin brother Nick (
Chad Michael Murray), a
juvenile delinquent, to come along. Dalton (
Jon Abrahams), who is constantly filming his friends with his video camera, is also with them.
